IP-rating (Ingress Protection Rating, input protection) is a system for classifying the degrees of protection of the shell of electrical equipment against the penetration of solid objects and water in accordance with the international standard IEC 60529, DIN 40050.
The IP code is used to designate the degrees of protection provided by the shell from access to dangerous (current-carrying) parts, ingress of external solid objects, water.
The IP 20 code stands for - operation inside buildings:
- 2 - protection against the penetration of solid particles with a size of at least 12.5 mm;
- 0 - no protection against the ingress of liquids.
The IP 55 code stands for - operation indoors and outdoors:
- 5 - protection against dust penetration in quantities that do not affect the performance of the product;
- 5 - protection against water jets from all directions.
The IP 65 code stands for - operation indoors and outdoors:
- 6 - full protection against dust penetration;
- 5 - protection against water jets from all directions.
